1/ CPT tubes
The GeoMil sounding tubes have a standardized OD of 36 mm and an ID of 16 mm and provide high precision tapered threads.
The steel quality is chosen with utmost care and next to the high grade steel composition, the sophistictated and manifold tempering and squeezing procedures guarantee for unsurpassed material quality and straightness. For the raw material, GeoMil only accepts and processes hollow tubes, drawn over mandrill but not welded or drilled from solid material.
Machining the threads follows a fully automatic and robotised sequence (see picture), allowing us to ensure a constant quality and conformity with the most stringent standards regarding dimensions, straightness and thread tolerances (e.g. the NEN-5140). On request, we send a tube certificate when suppling the tubes.
Next to the three GeoMil thread types "Speedlock", "Heavy" and "Standard", any third party thread type can be machined as well.
All GeoMil tubes can be delivered from stock for the standard lengths of 1 000 mm, 500 mm and 300 mm. Bulk quantities and/or special lengths can be produced within a couple of days.
For connecting tubes, friction reducers or cones coming with different thread types (also non-GeoMil) we provide respective cross-overs and adapters in various lengths.
*/ Speedlock™ thread
The GeoMil Speedlock™ thread for CPT sounding tubes forms a dual lead rope thread provding a tensional strength, approximately 30% stronger than the conventional standard thread. Demolition tests, carried out in 2005, also revealed that forces acting perpendicular on the tube string (like they occur during tube bending or aprupt cone deviation when the CPT cone slides along an obstacle) must reach more than 65kN before the threaded tube ends fail. (about 50% higher than for standard threaded tubes).
You can watch a short video (3MB) to get an impression.
The strong Speedlock™ thread is also less susceptible to dirt and only 2½ turns are required to screw or unscrew the tubes. Adding and removing tubes during sounding is thus faster and less straining.
In short, working with Speedlock™ tubes is faster, safer, more economic and simply smart.
*/ Standard & Heavy thread
Standard and Heavy threads form conventional single lead tapered threads requiring 7 turns to be fastened.
Due to the slightly enlarged wall thickness the Heavy threads tensional strength is about 20% stronger than for the Standard type.
The Heavy thread is very much preferred for off-shore soundings, where the the extra turns for fastening can form an advantage over the Speedlock™ type.
2/ Clamp
*/ Push-/Pull clamp 3655
Pushing and pulling clamp with sliding wedge blocks for 36 mm tubes and 55 mm casing.
This valuable clamp, unsurpassed in its reliable performance, can be utilised with any GeoMil hydraulic twin ram penetrometer pusher. Also, selected pusher models from third party manufacturers can be up-graded.
Depending on the respective pusher load range and model type, the mounting flange and locking screw may vary while the clamp body and clamping blocks are always identical.
Two sets of displacement plates allow for adjusting the jaw spacing when pushing/pulling sounding tubes (36 mm) or casing tubes (55 mm). The clamping blocks are rotated for pulling or pushing by use of the the front levers (see picture).
Sliding bars underneath the clamp, hold in place by the displacement plates, provide a twin-radius opening (36 mm and 55 mm) so that the tubes are centered before entering the clamp (in general combined with the guiding tube positioned in the respective sounding beam of a pusher). This way the tube string remains free of tension while passing through the clamp. Hence, the clamp can be released at any time and no excessive forces are required to free the string.
Each clamp comes with a bottle of high-grade Teflon oil, best to lubricate the gliding surfaces from time to time.
*/ T-Rex - Pulling clamp 36
The T-Rex pulling clamp for 36 mm diameter tubes has been specially designed for pulling top-pushed CPT tubes strings like when doing mechanical CPT. The clamp can be used for pulling forces of up to 260 kN and fits, like Clamp 3655, in all GeoMil twin ram penetrometer pushers. The T-Rex can be placed and retrieved easily by a smart but strong Bajonette type coupling.
Due to the clamping jaws with a large effective gripping surface any rod damage, like it is caused with standard ball clamps, can be excluded. The high quality design of the clamp guarantees for minimum wear of the clamp while the removable clamping jaws are reinforced with tempered gripping plates.
3/ GeoMil Data Acquisition Unit GME 500
For conducting electrical Cone Penetration Tests (CPT) and Piezocone Tests (CPTU) as well as for mechanical CPT with electrical load sensing a reliable data acquisition system is required. The GME 500 is GeoMil's latest generation system, the result of continuous research & development and useful improvements.
The system combines all features required for testing: It powers the connected cone or measuring device, logs the various measuring channels, digitises and then synchronises all signals with the independent depth reading. All data strings are then tranfered in real-time via an RS 232 interface (or USB/serial port adapter) to the acquisition software CPTest© on the PC.
he GeoMil GME 500 replaces all former acquisition units (e.g. GME 400 and GMF MK series 60/200/300) and is compatible with all GeoMil electrical cones (both compression and subtraction type), electrical-mechanical measuring devices and environmental cones and best performing with GeoMil's CPTest© acquisition software.
It is designed to operate with any PC, with at least a 300 MHz Pentium processor and Windows 32 bit operation system.
Two versions of the GME 500 are available. An industrial 19” built-in unit for CPT trucks and cabin crawlers, powered with 110 - 230 Vac, and a portable IP65 protected unit for outdoor use such as for stand alone penetrometers, the GeoMil LWC-100 crawler or third party pushing systems. For utmost flexibility the IP65 version can be powered by both, 110 - 230 Vac and 12 - 24 Vdc.
The GME 500 provides a 10 and a 16 lead analogue input for the various analogue channels, plus digital inputs for the depth registration. Altogether 8 analogue and 4 digital channels can be processed simultaneously.
The GME 500 can also be used in combination with the CTU-200 device for field testing the actual against the calibrated cone values.
4/ CPT software
*/ CPTest© - Acquisition Software
CPTest© is the Windows based acquisition software for GeoMil Equipment's GME 500™ data acquisition systems, both, for the 19" industrial built-in as well as for the portable IP65 version.
As the successor to CPT7, CPTest© offers the user greater flexibility and user friendliness. It provides a versatile and easy to use acquisition software for mechanical as well as electrical Cone Penetration Tests (CPT) and Piezocone Tests (CPTU).
You can select desired graphics, adjust scales and zoom in - even while performing a sounding at the same time. You can simply compare results by opening a previous sounding next to the current sounding.
The advanced and flexible features of CPTest© allow for professional and efficient test performance. Individual monitoring demands are taken into account by flexible viewing options the user can select.
All data are presented in real-time in both graphical and numerical format. At any time the vertical and horizontal scaling can be adjusted.
Moreover, all channels can be switched on or off individually. In playback mode, multiple tests can be opened and charts with all measured data are available in a 10 mm interval.
In addition to the classical GeoMil data format all tests can be exported as standard Geotechnical Exchange Format (GEF), allowing an easy exchange of CPT data. Moreover, the GEF format is fully compatible with a range of programs used for foundation designs and stability calculations.
(For more information on the GEF file format, please refer to GEF CPT - a standard format for CPT's or search TheGeonet for "GEF" and related publications.)
Thus the recorded data can easily be processed further, e.g. to interpret the results for soil classification, with interpretation and presentation applications like CPTask©.
CPTest© records all primary measuring parameters detected by the cone sensors. Furthermore derived parameters like the friction ratio are calculated and displayed. Obviously, CPTest© also records pore pressure dissipation tests (PPD) by logging the pore pressure and cone resistance versus time. Field plots of the original measuring values, both CPT and PPD, often demanded as on-site quality control, can be printed on site.
*/ CPTask© - Presentation and Interpretation Software
CPTask© forms the newly designed and Microsoft Windows based CPT data processing, soil classification and plotting software for all your CPT related office tasks.
The user friendly program structure is project oriented and provides, among other features, the possibility to edit project data and variables such as ground level, coordinates and water table in one simple step.
Several individual CPT files or complete project files can be opened and processed simultaneously. All windows can be arranged according to the user's preferences.
Data can be viewed as tables and graphic plots and all CPT data can be edited freely while the raw data files remain untouched.
The user can switch between various languages (e.g. English, Dutch, German and more to follow), both for the program readings and for the plot versions.
The data import format can either be of the classic GME or the standardised GEF format. The processed data can be exported directly to Microsoft Excel or as ASCII, PDF and JPEG format.
The manual input of CPT data allows also for a comfortable file generation of visually recorded mechanical CPT results.
Besides the measured parameters the user can select geotechnical relevant derived parameters to be plotted. Among others the equivalent SPT N60 values, relative density, internal friction angle and un-drained shear strength are calculated and presented in a professional lay-out.
Various filter and correction functions allow for individual data treatment and graphical presentation. The user can define whether the recorded penetration depth should be corrected for the measured inclination.
A soil classification based on both, friction ratio and pore pressure ratio is presented as coloured soil bars.
All functions and applied calculation formulas are well documented in an on-line help file.
All settings as for the scaling, header information as well for the print options can be modified individually or applied for all opened CPT files or projects.
The clients company logo can easily be integrated as bitmap file.
